RIC/DMP Interdenominational Service 2018

The HARP Society annual interdenominational service to commemorate the over 550 members of the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Dublin Metropolitan Police who were killed in the line of duty took place at the Church of St Paul of the Cross in Mount Argus, Dublin 6W, on Saturday 15 September 2018 at 2.30pm.

Clergymen from various Christian denominations including Rev. Joe Kennedy, C.P., Garda Roman Catholic Chaplain, Archdeacon David Pierpoint, Garda Church of Ireland Chaplain and Rev. Jim Carson, Presbyterian Church will officiate at the ceremony which consists of Old and New Testament readings and some appropriate liturgical music will be provided by the Dublin County Choir directed by Mr. Brian Ingoldsby, organist Mr. John Hughes and the Dublin Concert Band, directed by Mr. Derek Mander.

The entire proceedings will last an hour followed by some light refreshments.  We also will remember the 752 members of the RIC & 54 members of the DMP who volunteered for service in World War One, resulting in the loss of 176 RIC men (26 in 1918) and 10 DMP men (1 in 1918) will be referred to during the ceremony.

The HARP Society welcomes the wearing of medals – police, military and or Garda Siochana medals.

RIC/DMP Commemoration Committee

A commemoration plaque dedicated in memory of the 10 constables of the Dublin Metropolitan Police who volunteered for service and gave their lives in the Great War, 1914-1918 will be introduced at the interdenominational service. The plaque will be erected later in 2018 as part of the Great War Centenary Remembrance.
